Glenn Thompson was awarded the Community Services Award at the inaugural 2009 Australian Football Awards.
For more than a decade, Glenn Thompson has been a proud supporter of football and has been instrumental in promoting the game in the remote town of Borroloola.
Glenn was the first person to introduce the Indigenous youth in Borroloola to football and the benefits it can bring to the entire community.
This year Glenn successfully coached his team, the Borroloola Cyclones, to take out fifth place in the 2009 Arafura Games. This is a wonderful achievement in its own right. Glenn was instrumental in the teams success and also the widespread growth of football in Borroloola.
More importantly, Glenn recognises that by encouraging more young indigenous people to play football it provides a pathway to improve their life through better health, better education and improved skills. This was his original motivation ten years ago and his work has contributed significantly to better outcomes for young Indigenous people from the community.
It is through the dedicated and selfless community service work of Australian's like Glenn that our game will continue to grow and develop.
