It's On Again!
Are you between 6 & 16yrs old and want to get out and play soccer during the Wet Season?
FFNT are running the Second season of 5-a-side soccer for kids aged 6-16yrs.
It’s not club based so get your mates together and form a team, teams will be named after the A-League teams/colours so get your preference in early.
Individual registrations are also accepted and we will find a team for you.
The season starts next week so get your registrations in asap. 6-11yr olds will play on Thurs afternoon/evening depending on numbers, 12-16yr olds will play on a Sunday morning at Bagot Oval.
There will also be competitions held at Fred’s pass on Wed afternoon/evenings so you can register to play at Bagot Oval or Fred’s Pass (or both if you’re really keen!)
Only $15 registration for returning players from season 1 and $40 registration for new players (includes shirt & shorts) and $5/week to play.

Apply now for a Local Sporting Champions Grant

Do you know a Local Sporting Champion?
Are you, or do you know, a dedicated young athlete, coach or official participating in a state or national sporting championships? Are you aged 12-18 years old travelling further than 250km return for a state or national championships?If yes, then you or your team could be eligible for a Local Sporting Champions grant to help meet costs such as uniforms, travel, accommodation and equipment.
Grants of $500 per individual and $3,000 per team are available for young people participating in a nominated National Sporting Organisation-endorsed state or national sporting championships or a School Sport Australia national championship.
This program is an Australian Government initiative managed by the Australian Sports Commission and supports 8,000 young people each year.
The grants are designed to help athletes, coaches and officials achieve their sporting goals and are distributed across all 150 federal electorates of the national parliament.
Applications are open, so apply now!
Applications must be submitted prior to the commencement of the nominated championships.

SPORTS MEDICINE AUSTRALIA are holding an
Introduction to Sports Massage
DARWIN
Sunday, February 19, 2012
9.00am – 2.00pm
This course is intended to provide participants with an introduction to Sports Massage, concentrating on the Pre-event and Post-event Massage and associated theory requirements.
The course is delivered by a qualified and experienced Sports Massage Therapist with a strong background in sports training and massage.
Limited spaces are available for this workshop. Early registration is essential.
Inclusions: Types of massage; Contraindications to massage; OHS, Duty of Care and cultural considerations; Techniques and application; Practical massage of Back/Shoulders, Legs and Arms.
Prerequisites: This workshop assumes knowledge of basic Anatomy. A minimum of Sports Trainer Level 2 Anatomy is preferred. Level 1 Sports Trainers attend, however some pre-reading will be required to ensure underpinning knowledge.
Students will work in pairs to practice the pre-event and post-event massage techniques, and are requested to wear suitable clothing items. Please bring your own towel and sarong or suitable draping item.
Cost: $75 full fee - $55 for members (price inclusive of GST).
Venue: Sports Medicine Australia Conference room. Sports House, Fannie Bay.
Date and Time: Sunday February 19, 2012. 9am – 2pm.

SPORTS TRAINER COURSE

Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th, 9.00am – 5.00pm
Becoming an Accredited Sports Trainer is a great way for Parents, Teachers, Coaches, Players and Supporters be actively involved in the prevention and management of injuries during sporting games and events. The skills learned have a broad application within the community both in and outside the sporting environment.
This 16 hour course gives participants a hand’s on approach to the prevention, management and assessment of injuries, and builds on the participant’s basic knowledge of first aid to equip them with injury management techniques to use out on the field.
The following topics are included in the course:
The Sports Trainer in Action Basic Sports Taping
Basic Anatomy Drugs in Sport
Principals of Injury Management Sports Nutrition
Common Sporting Illnesses & Injuries Preventing Sports Injuries
Medical Conditions Head & Spinal Injuries
Transport of the Injured Athlete Basic Wound Management
To achieve SMA Accreditation participants must hold current First Aid and CPR certificates and complete the Sports Trainer Level 1 course.
Cost: $265 per person, Students: $225 (must be a minimum of 15yrs 9mths and proof of student status must accompany registration form). Price includes all course materials and course manuals. Closing date: Friday February 10.

The competitions were due to start this week but hopefully if we don't have too much more rain the Turf Club will be open for matches to commence next Tues 7th February.

NTC Trials Commencing in February

Trials for Northern Zone based aged groups will happen during the months of February and March at the Darwin Football Stadium, field 2 be there at 5pm for a 5:30pm start.
U13 & U14 Boys will start Monday 6th February & Thursday 9th February then every Monday & Thursday onwards.
U15/16 Boys will start Tuesday 7th February & Friday 10th February then every Tuesday & Friday onwards.
U13/14/15/16 Girls will start Wednesday 8th February the every Wednesday onwards.
