MINDIL advanced to the final round Norzone's FFA Cup qualifying round after a 4-0 victory over a gallant Litchfield FC at Marrara last night.

The Aces came into the clash as red-hot favourites. However, all-ages side Litchfield - from the third tier of Darwin football - didn't roll over easily.

Knowing they would have to put in a massive shift to halt the classier premier league outfit, the Red and Blacks came out of the blocks with enormous energy. They held back their opponents first wave of attack, until Aces struck through Byomy Anei in the 14th minute.

Litchfield's heads didn't drop. They worked hard in defence, as Mindil's young side peppered the final third.

Keeper Mark Thompson had a stellar first 45, on guard to shield his goal from anything that came near it.

Litchfield defended tightly until Luke Wills' second effort - in which he followed through after a save from Thompson - doubled Mindil's advantage after 42 minutes. They made it three in the 53rd minute. A superb solo effort from skipper Jacob Meehan Lee saw him beat three defenders, before neatly slotting the ball into the back of the net.

Meehan Lee scored a brace with five minutes remaining to extend the margin, but it was Thompson - who was best on ground - that starred.

Putting his body on the line, it didn't bother Thompson what body part he used to block the ball. The scoreline could have been larger without his last-ditch efforts.
