Media Release - Record numbers watching Football in the Northern Territory

Round 4 kicks off tonight

Friday 19 June, 2020

The Livestreaming of Football in the Northern Territory is exposing the region and its footballers to growing worldwide audiences.

FNT Chief Executive Bruce Stalder said the exposure for the sport is unprecedented and is being helped by the fact that the Darwin Men’s and Women’s Premier League is the only competitive football being played in Australia.

“We are now into our third week of livestreaming games and we have received wonderful feedback about the broadcasts and quality of football from all over the world,” he said.

Each of the Men’s Premier League games will continue to be broadcast on the FNT Facebook and YouTube channels for the remainder of the season, showcasing the game in the Territory to new audiences both in Australia and abroad.

This weekend’s Men’s Premier League action kicks off with Casuarina, who have two wins from three rounds, facing the winless Azzurri at Darwin Football Stadium.

On Saturday afternoon at 4pm, Fox Sports commentator Teo Pellizzeri will call the action as Norzone new boys Darwin Hearts face ladder leaders Mindil Aces.

Saturday night’s action concludes at 8pm with third placed Hellenic facing Port Darwin, who are yet to record a win this season.

The Women’s Premier League continues with round 4 action kicking off at 6:30pm tonight with the winless University Azzurri taking on third placed Casuarina.

Saturday night’s 6pm clash sees ladder leaders Mindil Aces face 2nd placed Hellenic.

The women’s round concludes at 5:30pm on Sunday with NT Yapa’s looking to open up their account for the season against Litchfield.
