On Friday the 2nd of June, 7 players from the NT departed to Sydney to take part in the first ever National Indigenous Soccer trails.
The trails where held at Blacktown’s International Sporting Complex in Sydney and was hosted by Western Sydney Wanders FC.
Over 60 elite Indigenous Soccer players were invited to attend the trail from all over the country.
From these trails the coaches Craig Foster and Andy Harper are intending to reduces both squad down to 22 players (Men &Women) this selection should be known within the next 7 days. After both squads have been identified they will be invited back to Sydney for a 2 day camp on the 23 and 24 of September, were the squads will be reduced again down to the final 18 players(Men and Women).
The final Men and Women’s Squads will be touring New Zealand in October 2017. With more internal tours being arrange for 2018,2019.
Arafura Games and an Indigenous World Cup have been mentioned.
Craig Foster commented on the commitment that the NT player have made to travel so far for such a fanatics opportunity. He was also commented that he was impressed with the skill level and mental hardness of the group considering that they wouldn’t have had the opportunity to play in a lot of top flight football.
