Round 16, Darwin Olympic v Hellenic Athletic
Down 1-0 with only a quarter of the match to play, three goals in seven minutes from Hellenic propelled them to a 3-1 victory over Olympic in round 16 of the women’s premier league.
Jade Forwood's goal proved the momentum changer and was followed by others to Paula Glover and Lisa Stenlund to seal victory.
The teams went into the break at 0-0, with Olympic ‘keeper Jadeen Chisholm making a number of crucial saves to maintain the stalemate.
And it was Olympic who would break the deadlock when Shai Turner was released into open pastures. Having to deal with two defenders in pursuit, she had enough speed to get close enough to take a shot. The strike was hard and gave Hellenic ‘keeper Peta Harman no chance of keeping it out.
Hellenic were then awarded a penalty. It was struck sweetly but Chisholm dived the right way. She parried it to a Blue who took another shot, but again Chisholm was up to the task, diving away again to keep the ball out.
She could do nothing three minutes later however, when Forwood found space and drove the ball into the back of the net to level the scores.
That gave Hellenic the ascendancy and soon they would take the lead. Forwood made a run through the centre before laying off a beautiful ball to Glover who hit it first time into the back of the net.
They made it three only two minutes later from a beautiful strike by Stenlund. From 25 yards she struck home so fiercely it cannoned past Chisholm.
