These two teams are evenly matched and that as it turned out. It was a thriller which had it all. Late goals, hard tackling, smart coaching and constant commitment from the players.
Casuarina are an exciting mixture of outright attack and no nonsense defence driven by their passionate coach Luis Rodriques to fight for the 90 minutes. And their opposition tonight also demanded that of them.
While the red and whites had a week of change and review it was clear from the start that Olympic were ready to play and in the 55th minute their young striker Dane Turner showed his undoubted ability when he calmly slotted the first genuine chance of the match passed Casuarina’s keeper. Almost immediately Casuarina hit back via a superb strike by their talisman Imam Mukhlis which found a way through the diminishing space between goal post and keeper.
The game remained at 1 -1 for the next 32 minutes with thrilling end to end play. At the 90th minute the game went into time added on and a draw looked likely when suddenly one of Olympics best players striker Mitch Amidy found himself in space and moved at pace toward goal and fired off a thunderous shot which keeper Manoli Simeon bravely tried to parry away but it was to be to no avail as the ball crashed into the back of the net. A minute later the score was 3 -1 after Olympics always dangerous Michael Tsounias finished off a great move which featured some smart football from his brother and provider Ross.
It was happy and confident start for Olympics new coach Steve Lolias, the red and whites mentor from the 2016 season. The win took Olympic onto 2nd place with Casuarina now occupying 3rd place.
