Friday night at Darwin Football Stadium saw another enthralling match in the WPL.
After a slow start the next 60 minutes of the game moved from end to end with a variety of shots on goal. It wasn’t until a fine strike from Litchfield’s number 8 Erin Davis put the Litchfield side in front.
It was fitting that Davis scored what turned out to be the winner as she was clearly one of the best on field. Davis and the young striker Brooke Phelan made most of the service they received from their midfield with Phelan showing a great turn of speed.
She also showed great courage when relentlessly chasing down an opportunity which ended in a heavy collision with Mindil’s equally courageous and reliable goalkeeper Catherine Burns. Burns extinguished the opportunity while Phelan rolled away winded.
Elsewhere Christabelle Moore was her usual energetic self for Mindil, cleaning up many of Litchfields forays into her half and in-form striker Jessie Brock was a constant threat, almost securing a draw for Mindil in the later stages of the match.
Litchfield 1 (E. Davis 67')
